Russ McClellan Memorial Scholarship

The Russ McClellan Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Russ McClellan, a beloved community member known for his dedication to education, service, and generosity. The scholarship supports students who exemplify Russ' integrity, leadership, and compassion, aiming to empower future leaders to pursue their educational goals while continuing his spirit of kindness.

Russ, a devoted member of the Simi Valley Police Department Volunteer Program, contributed over 4,700 volunteer hours starting in 2013. He played key roles in the Citizens on Patrol, as Police Explorer Post Advisor, Letter of Agency Coordinator, and Training Officer. Russ coined the phrase “stay alert, stay safe” for the department’s crime prevention program. His hard work and commitment earned him Volunteer of the Year awards in 2019 and 2020. Russ’ mentorship in the Police Explorer Post impacted many young individuals, helping them succeed academically and vocationally.

In addition to his volunteer work, Russ was an accomplished senior executive in marketing and communications. With 25 years of experience in healthcare, consumer products, and nonprofit sectors, he formed Argonaut Consulting Group in 2005. He provided marketing strategies and training, including for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program. Before founding his consulting firm, Russ led client services for Rapp Collins, working with Fortune 100 companies like Kaiser, Lowe’s, and Merck.

Russ earned an M.B.A. from UCLA and a B.S. in Health Sciences from the University of Utah. He also taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels for over 20 years. Through this scholarship, we honor Russ’ life of service and leadership, inspiring the next generation to follow his example.
